Named after the beloved character from the Disney movie The Lion King, Simba’s rescue journey is nothing short of remarkable. We found him and his siblings in a hole during a routine trip to Ensenada, Mexico, where we were vaccinating dogs and scouting a location for a future spay and neuter clinic. The neighborhood we visited is home to good-hearted people who treat the local street dogs as community pets. Though they may lack the funds for food or flea and tick treatments, they’re always willing to care for the animals if we bring supplies—and that’s exactly what we’ve been doing for months.
One of the dogs we frequently visited was a mama dog. Over time, she became more comfortable with us, transforming from a nervous and skittish dog into one that would take treats directly from our hands. It was an incredible thing to witness, as the whole community rallied to care for her. We knew the next step was to have her spayed to prevent future pregnancies, and we thought we were close to earning her trust enough to do it. But before that could happen, mama gave birth again—this time, in a hole.
We learned that the mama dog had stopped caring for her puppies, leaving them in dire need of rescue. When we arrived, the puppies were hidden away, underground, with little to no exposure to humans or sunlight. This was the moment we realized the cycle needed to end, and we took action immediately.
The rescue was intense, and every puppy we pulled out of that hole was screaming as if being born again—especially Hector. His vocal protests made him stand out from the moment he was saved!
These puppies had lived in complete isolation, feral and terrified. But within just two weeks of fostering, Hector and his siblings transformed into affectionate, loving boys who crave human interaction and attention. Their journey is a powerful reminder that fostering saves lives.
This heartwarming rescue was made possible through the support of the We Love Doggos Hero Club. Their contributions funded the supplies, medical care, and time required to bring these puppies from the brink of danger to the loving arms of foster families. Simba’s story is just one of many examples of how, with the right resources and care, even the most challenging rescues can have a happy ending.
By joining the We Love Doggos Hero Club, you can help save more dogs like Hector, ensuring they get the love and care they need to thrive. Your support makes all the difference.
